The numbers
Porezna uprava, the Croatian Tax Administration, publishes the number and value of fiscalized receipts by activity and by county. Area I of the classification covers accommodation and food service together.
In January 2026 area I recorded 31,390,974 receipts worth €334,705,472. In August 2026 it recorded 65,774,276 receipts worth €1,767,340,160. That is 5.3 times the money on 2.1 times the receipts.
The bill grew more than the traffic
The average receipt was €10.66 in January and €26.87 in August, 2.5 times higher. Split the August jump into its two parts and the size of the bill contributes slightly more than the number of bills.
Part of that is accommodation, because a room or a camping pitch is paid on a larger receipt than a coffee. The summary data we used does not separate the two, so the figures describe the whole sector, not restaurants alone.
What it means for a venue
A venue that plans staff, purchasing and cash around an average month gets both ends of the year wrong: short in August and over-committed in January. Tracking revenue per day against the same weekday in earlier weeks shows the curve while it forms, not at month end.
Source and method
Porezna uprava, fiscalization reporting portal, area I, retrieved on 29 September 2026. The portal publishes these figures for further use with the source cited. Since 1 January 2026 fiscalization covers every payment method, so we compare months within 2026 only.
Takeaway
The Croatian season changes what guests spend on each visit, not only how many come. Planning a venue on a monthly average hides both ends of the year.
