Restaurant and bar turnover: Croatia vs the EU since 2021.
Eurostat's turnover index for restaurants, bars and catering puts Croatia well ahead of the EU average since 2021, and still growing faster in 2026.
Published 29 September 2026

The numbers
Eurostat publishes a monthly turnover index for food and beverage service activities (NACE I56: restaurants, bars and catering), with 2021 as 100. In June 2026 the seasonally and calendar adjusted index stood at 225.5 for Croatia and 176.9 for the EU27. Croatian turnover is 125.5% above its 2021 average. The EU figure is 76.9% above.
Year on year
Against June 2025, Croatia grew 2.8% (from 219.3) and the EU 1.8% (from 173.8).
Read with care
The index is nominal, so it includes price increases, not only more guests. The base year 2021 still had pandemic restrictions in many countries, which makes growth since then look larger for everyone. Comparing Croatia with the EU on the same base is fair. Reading +125.5% as pure market growth is not.
Source and method
Eurostat, dataset sts_setu_m (Turnover in services, monthly data), NACE I56, index 2021 = 100, seasonally and calendar adjusted, retrieved on 29 September 2026. Figures are provisional and may be revised.
Takeaway
Croatian food service turns over more than it did in 2021 and has grown faster than the EU average. For many venues the back office has not kept up, and that is the gap Patrono is built for.
